Co-Presidents

Bernard Bigot

Bernard Bigot, General Administrator
for French Atomic Energy Commission

For as long as I can remember, I have had a profound interest in science and technology, and its relationship to society.

So much so, that from the moment that I heard about its conception, both as a museum and from an architectural standpoint, I was compelled to become involved. I have accepted the responsibility, and the privilege, of being the Confluence Museum's co-president of the "Become a Corporate Patron" fundraising campaign, as well as to contributing to the diffusion of knowledge and the enrichment of our cultural heritage.

To share with my fellow citizens of the world, the idea that science, is above all, a state of mind, respecting others, and respecting the forces of nature, and that there is not a response to everything; this is the role to which the Museum is committed, as well as to continuously seeking answers, leading the way into the future.  This role is one which is imperative for society, and about which I feel extremely passionate.

The spectacular new Confluence Museum, unique in France, has the goal of bringing, with scientific rigor, with a spirit of sharing and exchange, the marvelous discovery and open mindedness to the world, the responses to universal questions such as: Where do we come from and where are we going ? Who are we? What are we doing?

As co-president, I am committed to recruiting partners and soliciting private funding to reinforce the links which unite the Confluence Museum to society, and to secure its place in today's world, maximizing the opportunities as we enter the 21st century. For these reasons, it is my privilege to invite you to become a patron of the Confluence Museum, and to actively participate in this fundraising campaign with the objective of raising 5 million euros.

I accepted to become co-president of the Confluence Museum's "Become a Patron" campaign for many reasons from the majestic and original architecture conceived by the renowned Austrian firm Coop Himmelb(l)au which is fascinating to the innovative approach, linking science and societies; this is the very heart of the project.

Moreover, as the founder of a business, I know that one of today's greatest challenges is my fellow-citizens perception of science and industry in our ever changing and evolving society.

The concepts of social responsibility, sustainable development, as well as the huge communications budgets dedicated to explaining our professions; demonstrate the necessity of reflectively debating these questions.

It is urgent to create a place, such as the Confluence Museum, which has as a primary objective a place where people can meet and exchange ideas on themes which are of interest, and of concern to us all.

Increasing the Confluence Museum's influence is essential for the future of our community; it is a world class museum and unique in Europe.  I would like to cordially invite you to join us in this endeavor, and to "Become a Patron" of the Confluence Museum and discover this exciting project for yourself!
